Prayer of Obedience

“So it was, as the multitude pressed about Him to hear the word of God, that He stood by the Lake of Gennesaret, and saw two boats standing by the lake; but the fishermen had gone from them and were washing their nets. Then He got into one of the boats, which was Simon’s, and asked him to put out a little from the land. And He sat down and taught the multitudes from the boat. When He had stopped speaking, He said to Simon, “Launch out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.” But Simon answered and said to Him, “Master, we have toiled all night and caught nothing; nevertheless at your word I will let down the net.” And when they had done this, they caught a great number of fish, and their net was breaking. So they signaled to their partners in the other boat to come and help them. And they came and filled both the boats, so that they began to sink. … So when they had brought their boats to land, they forsook all and followed Him.”

(Luke 5:1-7, 11 NKJV, emphasis mine)

LORD You are good, and Your mercies endure to all generations! Like Simon, who was not ruled by his previous disappointment and all his experience but upon hearing Your truth obeyed. Let me also be so! May I hear Your instructions clearly to know the truth. By the power of Your Holy Spirit enable me to also say “Nevertheless, at Your word I will…” Bring me beyond the customary shallows for fishing, but lead me to deep water for an overflowing great catch, that benefits and effects others around meAnd when I am ready to call it a night and wash my nets, ask me just one more time, every time, to put the boat out again with You Jesus; to listen, to hear, to act! To You LORD I say “yes”, I will follow You! Amen

  1. YES! The NEVERTHELESS priciple! I have it marked throughout my Bible (great word study) to remind me that in tough times, I still need to TRUST and YIELD to my Lord Jesus Christ.
